Esperanza Spalding Performs at the Schnitz for AMP, Fall 2010
In
this photo from left to right: Thara Memory, Artistic
Director of the American Music Program. Holding the original
drawing by local artist, Diane Russell is 2011 Grammy winner
for Best New Artist, Portland's own Esperanza Spalding, and
on the right Raymond Thomas of Swanson, Thomas & Coon,
auction winner of the art bringing in a $5,000 bonus for the
fundraising event. The organization sold out all 599 seats
the day before the event, however, when Mr. Thomas, approached
the will-call window as the show was about to begin, the
ticket committee managed to find an unoccupied seat for the
late comer. In Mr. Thomas's own words, "Buying the
artwork was the least I could do to help out the organization
that was so kind and accommodating of my last minute request.”
